The Royal Dog of Madagascar — a small, sturdy companion with a soft cotton coat that doesn’t shed,
the temperament of a clown, and the loyalty of a guardian.
14th-century origin
Companion breed

The Coton has been bred as a companion since the 14th century, taking its name from Port Tulear in Madagascar. Once the cherished lap dog of nobility, the Coton was the only dog permitted in the royal court — earning it the nickname the Royal Dog of Madagascar.
Centuries of being bred purely for companionship are why today’s Coton is so naturally gentle, intuitive, and bonded to its family.
A small, sturdy purebred with a stunning
cotton coat that doesn’t
shed and doesn’t smell.
Always smiling, always engaged, the Coton is famous in breed circles as the “clown dog” for the way it lights up a
room and bonds with everyone it meets.
